Zach Gray

Assistant Professor of Animation

With interests spanning animation, programming, and filmmaking, Zach Gray’s most recent project is the feature-length film Secret of the Cave. In addition to directing the film, he co-wrote the script and served as visual effects supervisor. The film, a flagship project of Southern’s film program, was shot on location in Ireland during the summer of 2005 with a professional and student crew. Additional film credits include rigging, grip, and actor for Angel in Chains, a 40-minute film, and art director for the short Lesser Light.

During Gray’s study of animation and visual effects, the acting and performance aspects of animation provided a foundation for film directing. Gray was instrumental in developing the character animation program. Working with Disney veteran director Hendel Butoy, Gray served as technical director on the pilot project Baptism, a proof of concept for an animated film on the life of Jesus Christ.

Gray earned his bachelor’s degree at Southern and his Master of Fine Arts Degree in character animation from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
