Ed Guthero

Associate Professor of Graphic Design

Ed Guthero has been working professionally in graphic design for 30 years, including 22 years as an art director and creative director.

He spent five years working in advertising design in Canada before coming to the United States for an 8 1/2 year stint with Pacific Press Publishing Association.

In 1991, Guthero opened his own design studio headquartered in Boise, Idaho, serving a variety of clients throughout the country.

He began teaching at Southern in late 2002 and continues to keep a number of freelance clients in the industry.

Guthero has won more than 95 awards for his work in art direction, design, and photography, including recognition from the Print magazine National Design Awards, Communication Arts Magazine, Graphics, The New York Society of Illustrators Annuals, The Los Angeles Society of Illustrators, the Associated Church Press, Religion in Media, and the Rockies Advertising Awards.

His work in Western photography and text has resulted in the award-winning Fire and Rain coffee table book and a six-part series of Western calendars. He has also worked on music videos and directed the music video One Thing for Baillie and the Boys, utilizing the School of Visual Art and Design film crew. One Thing has been shown on GAC (“The Great American Country ” national video network.)

Guthero currently teaches courses in Editorial Design, Advertising Design, Corporate Identity, Publication Design, and Typography and arranges internships for Southern’s School of Visual Art and Design.

A life-long ice hockey goalie, Guthero played over 8 seasons for the Boise Knights ISHL hockey club and enjoys playing guitar and song writing.
